Munich German Advent Christmas Calendar - Sellmer Adventkalender
The advent calendar tradition dates back to 1851 in Protestant parts of Germany. The first Advent calendar with little doors was printed in the early 1900s and continues to this day.
This German advent calendar with glitter accents depicts the Marienplatz (town square), one of the most famous landmarks in Munich, Germany at Christmas. Munich's Town Hall (the Rathaus) and the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) with its unmistakable onion-domed towers are painstakingly reproduced on paper in minute detail. In the square, the annual Christmas market is in full swing with stalls overflowing with sweets, gifts and decorations. The lights of the market shine under the starry sky. The windows of this calendar reveal other famous buildings, landmarks and symbols of Monaco. The detailed picture has 24 small doors to open, each of which hides a small picture.
The tradition is to open a window every day from December 1st to December 24th.
